Course Description

This is the second of two courses on Homosexuality, the Bible, & the Church. This course builds upon the biblical foundation of the previous course (what the Bible says about homosexuality), and addresses practical questions about how to respond to same-sex attraction personally and how to minister to the LGBT community and those within our churches who experience same-sex attraction.

About the Instructor

Preston Sprinkle is a professor, speaker, and a New York Times bestselling author.

He earned a Ph.D. in New Testament from Aberdeen University in Scotland (2007), and he’s been a professor of theology at Cedarville University (OH), Nottingham University (England), and Eternity Bible College (CA and ID).

Preston is currently a full-time author, speaker, and teacher, though his dream in life is to become the next bass player for U2…or perhaps a professional surfer (neither of which he is very good at).

Course Sessions

Session 1: Introduction

Q

  1. Why is it important to be clear about what we mean when we use broad terms like “homosexuality”?
  2. Why is it (or is it) important to be careful about which terms we use and how we use them? Which terms might be unnecessarily offensive, and which terms are better?

Session 2: Does “Nature” Cause Same-Sex Attraction?

Q

  1. What evidence is there to suggest that “nature”—a person’s genetic makeup—causes same sex attraction? Do you find this evidence convincing? Why or why not?
  2. What evidence is there to suggest that “nature” does not cause same sex attraction? Do you find this evidence convincing? Why or why not?
  3. How would you describe the influence of biological factors on a person’s sexual orientation? Why do you say that?
