  1. What is the main thought in the letter of 1 Timothy?
  2. What does it mean for the church to be “the household of God”?
  3. What does it mean for the church to be a “pillar and buttress of truth”?
  4. As you read the letter of 1 Timothy, why is it important to think of the other Christians God has placed in your life, rather than only thinking of yourself as an individual?

Q

  1. Who is the letter of 1 Timothy written to and how should that affect the way we read this letter?
  2. Why is it important that we hold to good teaching and challenge false teaching?
  3. What would it look like to “charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine” (1 Timothy 1:3) while at the same time loving that person (v. 5)?
  4. Is there any sense in which you might be considered a “false teacher”? Why or why not?
